BIG DAY OUT 2011

On June 18, 2011 The Golden Soldiers, Inc. hosted their largest event in the organization’s history. Close to 600 people attended the free carnival themed event called BIG DAY OUT which is designed to honor special needs children and their families. BIG DAY OUT consisted of multiple inflatables, carnival games, a juggler and balloon artist, a Lowes build station, Game Truck Party, a vendor walk featuring Learning RX, Kid’s Enabled, Parent 2 Parent, Chiro4Health, and many more. Freddie the Falcon and the Atlanta Falcon’s Cheerleaders made a special visit providing the children with photo opportunities and autographs. “This event would never be possible if it were not for the numerous volunteers, corporate sponsors, and individual donors who all contributed to our organization and this great event, I am very grateful to have received such amazing support” stated Lindsey Turner, The Golden Soldiers’ Founder. Learning RX, Resurgens Orthopaedics, Resurgens Charitable Foundation, Moore Colson, Chick-fil-A, Superior Plumbing, Avalanche Entertainment, Branches of Christ, Cobb EMC, Watson & Associates, and Gas South are just a few of the many sponsors who support The Golden Soldiers, Inc.
At one point during BIG DAY OUT the event was called to a stop in order for Lindsey Turner, The Golden Soldiers Founder to give a special announcement. During this time Turner, read a story about a young boy who was mentally challenged and proceeded to have a conversation with a man in the grocery store. When the young boy’s mother thanked the man for being so nice to her son, the man explained how her son was a “blue rose”. While Turner was reading the story the volunteers passed out blue roses to the parents in attendance at BIG DAY OUT. The Blue Rose story can be found on The Golden Soldiers’ website at www.thegoldensoldiers.org.
When asked why Turner started The Golden Soldiers and why he decided to put on an event like BIG DAY OUT he simply responded with, “I am just trying to be obedient to something I felt I was called to do”. BIG DAY OUT 2011 was the second annual and the 3rd annual is already in the making with potential for some very special guests and the ability to host an even larger crowd.
